Why do we put on weight?

We know now that the traditional explanation - that of overeating - is wrong. People eat when they're hungry, and they stop when they're full. The problem lies in hormonal imbalance inside our bodies, an imbalance that deprives us of the energy to live life to the full, and instead stores the energy as fat.

So what influences human hormonal balance? And, more to the point, can you control your hormonal balance?

The three biggest factors are:

  • your genetics
  • your diet, and
  • stress.

There are no prizes for guessing which one of those three is the easiest to control. There is nothing you can do about your genetics (except envy those who can eat anything they like because they chose their parents well...) It is very hard to control the stress in our modern lives. However, you have 100% control of what you are putting into your mouth!

The number one nutrient that negatively affects human hormonal balance is well known - it's sugar. The health and beauty of nations is directly related to its consumption. The per capita consumption of sugar has increased fifteen-fold over the last 100 years.

Ever wondered why the French remain slim despite eating far more calories than we do, with their rich, fatty cuisine? That's right, it's because they drink wine instead of sugary soft drinks!

It's very sad that this information - backed by genuine science - cannot realistically compete with advertising budgets of big sugar and soft drink producers.

Imagine that the tank in your car is made of rubber. Every time you fill it up it expands a little. Now, you need say thirty litres of petrol a week for your driving, as you drive pretty much the same distance every week. Things go well for a few years, but then as your car ages, you notice the engine not having as much power as it used to. Also the car uses a little bit less petrol now. But you keep pouring in thirty litres every week.

What happens?

As time goes by, your tank swells more and more, until eventually it starts dragging itself behind the car, impairing its movement. You have to do something.

You have four options. You can:

  1. Pour less petrol in, OR
  2. Drive more, OR
  3. Re-tune the engine so that it burns more fuel (and gives you more power!), OR
  4. Cut out the tank

These are basically the three approaches to weight and/or fat loss:

  1. Eat less (reduce calories: this is how most commercial, low-fat and vegetarian diets work)
  2. Exercise more (this is why there are gyms everywhere)
  3. Re-tune your body so that it becomes reluctant to store fat (this is how DIET OF NATURE works: by restricting the storage hormones and activating the fat-burning ones)
  4. Remove the excess fat using some medical technique, such as surgery (traditional liposuction) or ultrasound liposuction (non-invasive fat removal - this is how Slimming Sensation works).
